A South Carolina graduate and former cheerleader was arrested along with her husband yesterday in Massachusetts as fugitives in the slaying of a woman found last week.
Kelly Ryan and professional bodybuilder husband Craig Titus have been wanted in connection with the death of Melissa James, found in Ryan's burned-out luxury car abandoned off a remote desert highway.
Ryan has competed in fitness competitions and her Web site says she has a journalism degree from the University of South Carolina.
Online interviews given by Ryan say she grew up in Greenville and was a cheerleader for the Gamecocks.
Titus is wanted on murder charges in Nevada. Ryan was sought as an accessory to murder. The couple also face charges of third-degree arson.
Court records show that Titus told Las Vegas police he had a secret romance with the 28-year-old James.
Man, that really bums me out. It seems almost unreal. Titus may be a big deal bodybuilder but he has his skeletons whereas Kelly has had a stellar career. I went through a ton of resources before it actually sunk in that, yes, this is the mess and disgrace they're in now. Drugs, infidelity, love triangles, debauched living, torched car, body in trunk, et cetera...
Professional bodybuilding is by no means my cup of tea but you can bet it's going to pay a price for these two stars' part in this crime. Like them, it's unclear what part the victim had but she obviously has family grieving their loss. Like I said: it's tough to take in that a woman of Kelly Ryan's abilities and accomplishments would be party in some way to this horrible development, and so be reduced to a "bodybuilding Bonnie" caught having her nails done.
