So I've made it no secret that I'm not exactly a fan of Torrie Wilson, who spent ten years getting by in wrestling from being a skank, than from actually doing any wrestling. But hey, they paid her to do that, so there's not much I can say. But then I read this.
Now at first it seems like a harmless blog about Victoria...until you get to the part about the girl who won't be mentioned. Who never went out of her way to make Torrie look good. Who acted like she was better than everyone else...yada yada yada.
Now the question becomes who that wrestler could be. Although anybody with half a brain could figure out who that was. None other, than arguably the best female wrestler of our generation.....Trish Stratus.
I'm sorry bitch. No one has ever seemed to have a problem with Trish over the years, other than you. Why? Cause she was hotter than you? Cause she was better in the fitness realm than you? Cause she was better than you in wrestling? Hey Torrie, I'm sorry Trish didn't make you look great....but hey no one claimed she could make a pair of panties look good. Who's panties you ask? Probably yours.
It is official. I now hate Torrie Wilson more than Candice. At least the latter TRIES to improve
What Torrie says about wrestlers is true. It's a competitive industry and you rarely find professionals who go out of their way to make a lesser wrestler look good. And this is another strong kudos to Victoria and all she did in the sport.
But let's not forget that Torrie stayed in WWE longer than Trish Stratus. I dread to think how many Diva Search Contests she had to endure with eye candy being brought up to fill the spots vacated by Trish, Gail Kim, Molly Holly, Ivory, and so on. It wouldn't surprise me if Torrie were referring to any number of these Diva Search girls.
If you really want to talk about athleticism and performance, (hides under table to escape eventual knifes and forks being thrown at my direction) I will say Trish is quite overrated.
She herself, mind you, started off as a 'skank' too - being the sidekick eye candy of Test and all that. Then she had that whole 'slutty era' when she played as Vince's poodle... and it was only towards the end - when all her competition was gone (namely Lita after she broke her neck), was she elevated to that position of the dominant Diva.
I never thought of Trish as a particular 'good' wrestler.
Victoria, pre-injury Lita, Mickie James, Beth Phoenix, Melina, probably Nattie Neidhart, Gail Kim, and apparently the developmental girl Angela Fong, all seem to easily match or even outmatch Trish in terms of performance.
I've always felt a certain sense of 'fakeness' and 'clumsiness' watching Trish wrestle. All the other girls I've mentionned are much more smoother in the ring, wrestle realistically and sell moves properly.
Torrie was so-so, I'd probably rank her under Trish, so there may be some truth in what you say after all, Rock.
But then again, all this is just my personal opinion. :)
(Peeks over desk to see if Rock has not thrown a firebomb at me yet)
Truth be told, I read Torrie Wilson's comments and her complaints about other wrestlers didn't even register; I read it as praise of Victoria.
And, thinking back, I don't recall Torrie doing all that much with Trish (storylines, matches, etc.), so I have a hard time imagining that she has particularly hard feelings for her. If I had to guess, I'd suspect she's talking about either Candice Michelle or Sable, as she had quite a bit off in-ring interaction with both of them.
I never really thought of Torrie as a wrestler. She would compete in a match but she was never title contender material. She was expected to be and paid for being eye candy and nothing more than that.
I think Torrie could have been a great wrestler. She was very athletic in the ring in my opinion and seemed to match up well physically with many of the girls she faced.
Just my opinion!
It may have not been in her heart as much as the others, but I think if she really wanted it, she could have done it.
The problem was that WCW wasn't really interested in women wrestlers (with a few exceptions); women were there as eye candy, and so women who, given their physicality, could have been developed into major talent, such as Torrie Wilson and Kimberly Page, were pretty much wasted, and by the time some of them migrated to WWE, it was too late to do much with them. Torrie retired because she was facing serious back trouble as a result of all the bumps she took, and I seem to recall reading Stacy Keibler (another WCW migrant) saying that every time she wrestled in the WWE she ended up getting injured. Had they been trained properly from the get go, maybe they could have avoided that sort of thing.

And I concur that she is quite hot.

I don't buy the whole "WCW never developed her" theory at all. If only because she spent more years in WWE (7-8) than WCW (2-3). The fact is she never tried to improve at any point, just using her looks to get by. I still remember her botching a SUPLEX in a Survivor Series match a month or so before she left.
Trish on the other hand, started the same as Torrie (damn she's hot) but actually took the time to develop her skills in the ring.
Alright, this is getting a hell of a lot of play and I admit I'm not going to take the time to read this particular blog because I don't think it's worth my time. Like RockFresh, afterall, it should be no secret that I'm not a fan of Torrie either.
Imperial, I respectfully have to disagree with you because, while I agree Trish did start out as eye candy, she took it upon herself to become more credible in the ring and, from what I saw, Torrie didn't put in nearly the same effort. Meanwhile, Trish did all this within 3 years.
What I think set Trish apart wasn't just her atheltic ability. I think it was the combination of her ability in the ring combined with the fact the she delivered great promos for a female when given mic time, she had awesome rivalries with both Lita and Stephanie McMahon, she was great as a face and a heel and she worked well with male counterparts, particularly with Y2J and Christian and, later, with Johnny Nitro when she feuded with Melina.
Meanwhile, Imperial, at least wait until after this weekend to throw a firebomb at me BECAUSE I SHOULD HAVE THE INSIDER TO EDDIE TOMMOROW!!!

The fire's on its way! Too late! :D
Well, theoretically speaking, maybe I should clarify my point.
I was not, and do not, and probably will never say that Torrie Wilson was in any way better than Trish because I do not think so.
Frankly, I don't disagree much with you guys about Torrie Wilson not really being the best out there - and compared to Trish, I'll gladly give in that Trish is probably much better as a performer.
However - one point I will like to repeat, is that I personally don't think Trish is as good as everyone (not just in this forum) claims her to be.
Sure, she was popular - but for what reasons exactly? The looks... or the actual skills?
Now without a doubt, she definately improved greatly from her eye candy days and towards the end of the career, she was surely a pretty good athlete. She's also quite good on the mic and all that - except the occasional exagerated voice tones.
But she's nowhere near the 'top' in terms of in-ring skills, Many girls can wrestle much better than she can in a much more credible and smooth way. I'd probably put her like... above average to good - with 'excellent' girls above her in terms of in-ring skills.
If you just want to talk about mic skills, then maybe she's better than the other girls - but the issue there is that the 'other girls' were rarely given the mic time that Trish was given in the first place, so we'd never really know.
Actually, maybe Torrie Wilson wasn't even referring to Trish in her blog... lol
