You know as much as we sometimes rag on Vince & Co. for their lackluster building/women's division/HHH etc. it is important to give an applause when they get something right. In case anyone missed it, the final 20 minutes of Raw was perhaps the greatest segment in the history of wrestling. An incredibly emotional, heartfelt, (insert own adjective) tribute to the legendary Ric Flair. Hats off for finally sending someone off with the respect they deserve. you will be missed Ric. Thanks for everything
And maybe it's because my cynicism that's grown immensely over the years, but even Vince got it right by not having an ulterior motive of building a heelish storyline off of it.
And, for the most part, WM 24 was really good. I hated the result of Show/Mayweather but they worked hard and it was very entertaining. The MITB rocked. The 2 Title Matches were excellent, as I think almost everyone counted Orton out which was well done and Edge put on a great performance, I think actually getting many fans convinced he could actually beat Taker at WM. Maybe there's hope for WWE yet (except the Women's Division.)
And Edge's interview early in the PPV about how he was in the crowd in Toronto way back when Hogan lost to Ultimate Warrior was ABSOLUTELY HILARIOUS. Me and my buddies were in stitches.
Of course, Flair/Michaels was a good match that told an AWESOME story. Yeah, RockFresh, it was awesome. What else needs to be said?
Don't know what else has to be said. But on the Mania front, the highlight of the night was HBK's "I'm Sorry. I love you" before kicking Flair. If i remember nothing else from that show, that'll be it.
On Show/Mayweather, you knew they weren't bringing in Mayweather to lose. But Kudos to Show/Mayweather and whoever booked that match for making it one of the most entertaining things on the show. Especially with the cluster**** i was expecting. Honestly wouldnt be suprised if Mayweather was back at some point. And on Show...nice to see him healthy and motivated again. The gentle giant role is so much better for him than the monster. He's such a likeable guy
I met Show, Paul, at a charity event in Cleveland two years ago. What a great guy!!! I talked to him for about 15 mins. He is very humble and quite funny as well.
I was SO glad when Vince decided to refrain from any crap at the Ric Flair sendoff (I was half expecting Randy Orton to RKO him or for Shawn Michaels to pull a heel turn). And I see that Paul Heyman went off a little on the multiple sendoffs (HoF, Mania, and RAW) , but c'mon, it's Ric freakin' Flair! Though I do wonder why they gave prominence to Jericho and Cena, when I don't recall either of them having any big storylines with Flair, but I do remember Big Show and Flair having a heck of a dustup in WCW.
And on the Big Show, I'm also glad to see that he seems to be taking a face turn. I've never met him, but he has a lot of charm and humor that comes through the screen (his interview with Conan O'Brien followed by him sitting in while Conan interviewed that little old lady who has a sex talk show on one of the women's channels is one of funniest things I've ever seen).
Actually, a lot of the wrestlers have shown a capacity for humor (I'm CQTM right now thinking about the time DX actually pulled out the script to explain to Hornswoggle why he had to leave). I'm wondering if WWE has ever thought about doing a comedy instead of another brainless action flick?
P.S. CQTM: chuckling quietly to myself. Sort of a low level LOL
