Gimmicks
Permalink

It seems to me that there comes a point where too many wrestlers are "talented girls here to give it their best shot" or "continuing talent from the FWF here to give it their best shot"... I was thinking back to a few gimmicks wrestlers had, such as police officer, rich girl, ex-con, etc., and wondered if they could be used to spice up the roster. What opinions do you guys have of gimmicks?

I think it helps mesh out the characters, and gives you even more
options moving forward.

I'm not a huge fan of gimmicks, but I can recognize the value.

Otherwise, mainstream wrestling would not use them.

Obviously, there must be a reason.

Like EZJ said, the gimmicks do a good job fleshing out the characters. As long as we don't have women coming to ring in clown or garbage (wo)man costumes, I don't mind gimmicks at all. I've been trying to port over the FWF wrestlers with their same angles from before. DJ Wallis will still be an unethical scientist, April Hunter a former pole dancer, and so on. Since they didn't start with the EFW, I think it's important to have a line or two acknowledging their membership following the fall of the FWF.

one of my favorite gimmicks from the older episodes was ericca kern as a prison inmate returning to the ring.  and that got me thinking about the kelly ryan situation.  would it be a bad idea to have kelly ryan on the efw roster in a similar gimmick as errica or would that be too controversial?

That would be a step too far for me!

It's so wrong yet I can't help but dwell on it. It's not like K.R. is in a position to sue anyone unless she's deemed "not guilty". biggrin

It wouldn't be proper though...

Ryan as the new Kern would be a guilty pleasure (no pun intended).  But I wouldn't hold out any hope of it happening, Nacho.  Maybe if Ryan gets acquitted of the charges or receives a penalty that isn't quite severe.

what everyone says makes sense and i do agree.  it's just the guilty thrill (no pun intended either) of a prison-hardened ryan facing some of the baby faces of the league thats so enticing.

Not to say you couldn't model another wrestler off of a similar storyline.
