The WWE has released Christy Hemme. They aren't saying why, but I suspect that the reason is that shortly before her release, she had indicated that she was going to go into an extensive training program to improve her skills and work to become a decent wrestler.
Obviously, the WWE couldn't stand the thought of having another decent female wrestler and so decided to nip that in the bud.
I agree. The women are the only interesting part anymore and since they've decided to purge competant women and those who are eager to become competant, the WWE is dead to me.
BTW, watch for either Victoria or Torrie to go next.
According to one of the wrestling websites I check, Victoria is not in the Smackdown v. Raw 2006 game or the 2006 Divas calendar. Not good signs, I would say.
As for Torrie, well, her husband was canned by WWE, so who knows what's going on there.
It's amazing how quickly things can turn in a week. I used to roll my eyes when Christy Hemme was mentioned, but I warmed up to her thanks to a match forwarded by Starr. Christy showed potential to be a good in-ring performer in the women's division. And then - just like THAT - the WWE lets her go.
Thanks, Starr. Now I have an emotional investment in this. Thanks a lot.
Still waiting on the official reason Hemme was released - it's sure to be good.
From what I've read, it appears that she was released over a pay dispute. She got $250,000 as the Diva Search winner, and now that the period covered by that has run out, they wanted to prune her salary back considerably (the other women don't get anywhere near that, apparently), and they couldn't come to an agreement.
As usual, Vince K. is penny wise and pound foolish. Christy was intent on doing what Trish had before her: namely transform herself from eye candy into a bona fide wrestler. From what I heard, she had volunteered to go down to OVW and hone her skills, then return a much better performer. Her match against Melina on Smackdown showed just how much she had progressed and sadly, how much potential she had given the time and opportunity to train/wrestle away from the spotlight of the WWE.
Hopefully, we will be able to read more about this lightweight on both the independent circuit and on our talented FWF roster. If so, I think I know a certain writer itching to use her (right Mr. Hyde?).
