Is it just me or have the women in the WWE gotten better over the last few months in terms of their wrestling skills? A number who were just eye candy, such as Maria, seem to be improving, and the biggest shock is Torrie, who, of course, has been around for years and never been more than barely adequate and yet in her last few matches seems to have finally gotten competent.
Again, is it wishful thinking on my part or have they improved, and if so, why?
Actually I do kind of agree with you...Whereas Torrie still sucks, Candace has improved leaps and bounds (kind of starting on a stratus-curve, though i doubt she'll become that level of a performer). Maria is still just good to look at, but with Alexis/Mickie, and Melina's top performances it helps. Jillian Hall is a more than capable wrestler, as is Phoenix, which makes the decision to move Victoria a shock, as she's always been their best wrestler. Maybe bring Trinity back and actually have her get in the ring with the girls
Yeah, I have noticed. It's one thing to have eye candy. But we can get eye candy everywhere (the Internet, strip clubs, etc.) But if we're watching a wrestling show then wouldn't it make sense to have hot girls who can acutally wrestle?
All of what you guys said is true, RockFresh and Karl, and I do agree that Victoria is still the best, although on another day I would probably Mickie James. Also, Melina is HOT and I think she'll get a lot better. She already has good charisma.
It's too bad that Victoria and Torrie are on Smackdown. Like all the tag-teams (a debate for another day,) all the wreslting divas should be on one show so they could actually get serious about the division, although I wonder how serious Vince would be about pushing the division when so many idiotic guys can't separate getting their eye-candy somewhere else, rather than getting their eye-cnady from girls who can't, ya know, wrestle on a wrestling show.
Speaking of Smackdown, how 'bout MICHELLE MCCOOL? WOW! SHE'S GORGEOUS! Once she improves in the ring, look out. Her character is also developing nicely, though not as far advanced as Melina yet.
But, mark my words, Michelle McCool is a future WWE Women's Champion.
I agree with you on McCool's looks...but if anyone saw Smackdown last week...how the hell do u have an awful match with Victoria...Based on reports they had to go back and redo the end of the match because it was just atrocious. Finlay, get back to work with the women lol.
Somehow the thought of you guys in tights next to two hotties like Lisa Marie and Michelle has me reaching for the barf bag.
As far as the roster goes, I'd say that Lisa Marie (Victoria), Mickie James, Melina Perez, Jillian Hall and Beth Phoenix all know their way around the ring and are capable of putting on far greater matches than they are *allowed (see below) to have. These talented women all need to be on the same show.
I agree that Michelle has potential. Hopefully, she can develop as fast as our sorely missed Trish Stratus did.
Maria has show improvement and I dare say, more so than the current champion, Candice (who still does nothing for me, technically or otherwise). For the time she has been thrust into in-ring action, I expect more from Candice than from Maria (again, I am judging them again Ms. Stratus). Still, both women are to be commended for their efforts.
Which brings us to Torrie Wilson. For some time now, I too have been disappointed in Torrie's efforts in the ring. Considering she did have some in-ring time in WCW before it folded, I had hoped she would become the star of the division. When it became apparent she had no interest in that goal, I resigned myself to bathroom breaks when she appeared in the ring as her obvious disinterest was a turn-off. Imagine my surprise when I saw her most recent match against Victoria. Though she lost the match, I was ecstatic at what I thought was a great effort on her part. Hopefully, she will have some more great battles with Victoria and still fulfill my faith in her.
*allowed* If anybody has seen WWE talent wrestle in Japan or abroad and not under the WWE banner, they know that the lackluster efforts in the WWE are not tolerated and the wrestlers do, in fact "up" their game. You need to go no further than an old Hogan match vs. The Great Muta to see what I mean-he busted out moves that never, ever showed up in a WWE ring.
of course it still boggles my mine on the women vince hires. i understand vince gets turned on by bikini models, and wants to act like he's some god. But there are plenty of attractive women in the indy world that know how to wrestle (nattie neidhart, April Hunter). Granted Neidhart finally got to ovw, but u know she'll be nothing more than a manager. THe diva search has done nothing for the wwe, one is no longer on the roster, the other gets injured every other week. Vince...hire women that can wrestle. There are plenty of hot ladies that can get the job done. Get rid of Wilson who has zero charisma, zero ability, and is no longer the hot woman she used to be. Keep Maria out of the ring, and keep her in the ditzy role (which admittedly she is very good at). Bring Vicky back to Raw, and give the girls more than 2 minutes for the crowd to recover for the next HHH match.
OMG Vince might have gotten a clue. His latest group of "diva search" girls include 2 personal trainers, a fitness model, two college athletes, a Golden Gloves silver medalist, and a former powerlifter (even though some are the same people)....amazing idea..beautiful woman with possible athletic ability...wish i had thought of that.
So sad listening to you guys get off on this glimmer of hope. Didn't you learn from the last time WWE's women division looked this good? Actually, it looked much better then and they still managed to screw it all up.
Victoria, Trish Stratus, Lita, Gail Kim, Molly, Jazz, Torrie Wilson, Dawn Marie, Jacqueline... yeah... breathe in that sweet nostalgia... and realize that it got wrecked! Just like this current "revival", as some of you are clinging to, will be wrecked as well!
the thing i don't get is...didn't vince realize his two best wrestlers (Trish, Victoria) came from the fitness realm? christ...their all beautiful and have more athleticism in their pinkies than the krystal's of the world. raid those women and bring em in
If somebody other than Taryn wins, I'll be shocked. She's already got the boobs, has been in Playboy and is blonde.....'nuff said. Vince has already probably shot a load drooling over her.
While I'd prefer either Lena Yada or Eve Torres, I think Vince will think he's got enough ethnic looking girls on the roster (and probably soon to be decreased!)
If the WWE offers Taryn a contract, i think she might be the heelish type by the way she looks. But she might have be the bitch, so who knows. Taryn should manage Chris Masters or someone. she does have a great body and boobs.
