I've seen the poll of all the various matches over on the yahoo groups site.
Before I weigh in here I want to make it clear that I'm not going to rock the boat. I'm not a writer and Eddie and the writers put in a tremendous amount of work. Thus, if they and/or the other fans want a number of various specialty matches then I will be all for it and I will enjoy them, no matter what. That being said, here is how I see the multitude of matches that we can vote for:
HELL IN THE CELL: I'm sure it would be great but we just had an epic triple-threat one between Brandi, Dana and Madonna.
CAGE MATCH: We had no less than 5 of them on episode 40.
CHAIN MATCH: Beate Drabing and Dina Al-Sabah recently had one, also on episode 40.
LADDER MATCH: Could be great but over the years they have become very formulaic, thus are limiting.
TABLES/LADDERS/CHAIRS: Although a more recent concept than the ladder match, the same argument applies as above.
BARBED WIRE RING MATCH: As tough as even these beautiful women are, there are some matches that just should not be partaken and they should be reserved to the likes of Mick Foley, Sabu and Terry Funk.
COAL MINER'S GLOVE MATCH: Could be a neat concept but, and I'm just being honest, it's just not my primary pick.
'I QUIT' MATCH: It appears that a similar (Submission's Only) match will be forthcoming at Death Slam (but my lips are sealed on the opponents.)
FIRST BLOOD MATCH: We've had numerous matches where blood has been involved.
WEAPONS MATCH: See above. In addition we just completed a Hardcore tournament.
What am I getting at? I think a STRETCHER MATCH is where it's at! But not just any stretcher match. Oh, no! But one where 50 girls are involved to symbolize the actual number of the episode. My personal opinion is to have a big gimmick match as opposed to 15-20 specialty matches. Numerous specialty matches, one after another, to me, be is bit of overkill although some of you may feel that having one giant gimmick match is overkill, too. I guess it's a matter of interpretation. Nonetheless, we have the roster size to have a 50 girl stretcher match, and with this size of a roster it should be a goal to utilize this talent now that it's here, and STILL have a few other specialty matches. A FALLS COUNT ANYWHERE match always works (the girls could be fighting in the men's room and smashing each other into the urinals, for example.) A TRIATHELON/IRONWOMAN'S could work, too. Also, a SCAFFOLD match is an excellent concept.
I would love a huge stretcher match. But, I'm not trying to be a stick in the mud. Sure, I've made counterpoints to many of the matches. However, the writers here are so good that they could make any of them work and, again, I will enjoy them no matter what. I just remember how much I enjoyed the coffin match on episode 37 and Chris mentioning a stretcher match as an idea some time ago on the message board. I think that this is the perfect opportunity for this plan to come to fruition.
